Photochromic lenses
Photochromic lenses, often called transition or light-reacting lenses, turn darker in sunlight and clear up again indoors. They are made with your prescription like any other lens.
Who they suit
- People who go in and out of sunlight and do not want to switch between glasses and sunglasses.
- People who want UV protection built into everyday glasses.
Good to know
- They darken with UV light, so they stay lighter inside a car, because the windscreen blocks most UV.
- They take a short time to darken and a little longer to clear. Heat makes them darken less.
- They are not a full replacement for sunglasses in very bright sun.
