Which glasses suit your face shape
Part of our guide: how to choose glasses frames. For children, see kids’ glasses: a guide for parents.
The right frame should balance your face, not copy it. These are guidelines, not rules. If you like a frame and it fits comfortably, it is the right one. Our Frame Face Match quiz can also suggest shapes.
Find your face shape
Look in a mirror with your hair pulled back. Compare the widest part of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw, and compare the length of your face with its width.
What usually works
| Face shape | What it looks like | Frames to try |
|---|---|---|
| Round | Width and length are similar, with soft cheeks | Angular frames add definition: square and rectangle shapes |
| Square | Strong jaw, wide forehead | Soft curves balance the angles: round and oval frames |
| Oval | Balanced, slightly longer than wide | Most shapes work. Try something bold, like a cat-eye |
| Heart | Wide forehead, narrow chin | Frames that are lighter at the top and fuller at the bottom, such as half-rim frames |
| Long | Face is clearly longer than it is wide | Taller frames and wider shapes shorten the look of the face |
Beyond shape
- Size. The frame should be about as wide as your face, without touching your cheeks or sticking out past your temples. See how to find your frame size.
- Colour. A softer colour, or a clear frame, is gentler on a small face. See transparent frames. Thin metal frames look light.
- Fit. The bridge should sit on your nose without sliding, and the arms should rest behind your ears without pinching.
Choosing for children
Look for light, flexible frames in the right size. See our kids eyeglasses, or bring your child to the counter so we can check the fit.
